Description
This 60-hour course is designed for social workers, counsellors, EAP practitioners, nurses and psychologists. The course will assist learners to understand the theoretical foundation to HIV, the disease and effective personal management thereof; to appropriately and sensitively counsel people affected by HIV. This is a non-credit bearing short course.
Competence in this training course will enable the learner to:
✓ Understand: HIV Epidemiology; progression, stages, opportunistic infections
✓ Sensitively share with clients: prevention and treatment methods to reduce the incidence
✓ Counsel clients: on the importance of ARV treatment and adherence
✓ Understand and practice: counselling models TASO and Eagan Skilled Helper
✓ Demonstrate: effective counselling skills
✓ Assist clients: to develop disclosure, treatment, adherence plans
We offer the training in 3 different formats to best suit your needs:
1. Face-to-face: Students physically attend and are trained by a facilitator face-to-face Students join online and receive live online training by a facilitator
2. Live online: Students join online and receive live online training by a facilitator
3. eLearning: Students can log in at any time and work through the course material at their own pace.
